Ava Zinn ends Meat Boycott…

MARION, IN – A meat strike that began on March 1, 2014 is now over after 292 days.

The meat strike or going vegetarian occurred after Ava Zinn, yours truly, made a friendly wager during American Idol 13 and Marrielle Sellars and Jillian Jensen both were eliminated in the semi-finals. That meant no beef, chicken, poultry, fish, or any meat of any kind until the end of 2014 or a female wins, whichever comes first.

Because Christina Grimmie finished third place on The Voice 6, Jena Irene (Asciutto) finished runner-up on American Idol 13, Dana Williams finished 4th on Rising Star, and DaNica Shirey was eliminated in The Voice 7 quarter-finals — the latter of which was pardoned after yours truly and the seven other moderators on the Vote for the Girls moderator panel voted unanimously to use their Moderators’ Veto on Shirey. As a result, the meat strike was scheduled to end on January 3, 2014.

After Natasha’s win on Hell’s Kitchen 13 tonight, the decision to end the meat strike after 292 days was a relatively easy decision for me to make.

But as it turned out during the 292 days of not eating meat, I am impressed with how life as a vegetarian went. I went from 180 pounds from September 2013 down to below 145 back in September 2014.

The biggest challenge was Thanksgiving when for the first time in my life, had made TofuTurky instead of the 10 pound turkey I usually buy every year. So my girlfriend, Kymberly, a vegetarian 361 days a year, and I researched Thanksgiving and Christmas vegetarian recipes that proved to be difficult to make as well as tasty.
